Nixon off and running

DeSoto (Texas) 2017 standout K.D. Nixon may not be the biggest guy on the football field, but he just might be the fastest.
The 5-foot-7, 183-pound receiver is as shifty as they come and he has the speed to blow the top off any defense. As a sophomore he used those skills to record 47 receptions for 623 yards and five touchdowns on his way to first-team all-distict honors. He is also a key member of DeSoto's 4x100m team which will compete at the UIL State Championships on Saturday.

Scholarship offers have already found the speedy Nixon. Texas Tech was the first to offer. Arizona State has also placed an offer on the table. Most recently he received an offer from the Oklahoma State Cowboys.
"It's great because they have great receivers there," Nixon said. "Dez Bryant was a first rounder and he came from Oklahoma State. Now they have Chris Lacy from DeSoto and he's doing big things. It's a good thing."
He has also received considerable interest from several other college programs, but he has only taken one visit. Nixon visited Ohio State with Tristen Wallace early in the spring, and he liked what he saw in Columbus.
"It was great. It was a great atmosphere, great coaches, great players. That was my first visit, but it was the best visit so far," Nixon said. "They're just like DeSoto. They do hard work. They compete against each other to win or lose every day. Then the players aren't cocky. They treat you like you're family when you first get there."
It is safe to say the Buckeyes made a strong impression, but they are not the only ones who have caught Nixon's eye.
"I can give you my top eight that I would like to go to," Nixon said. "Oregon, TCU, Ohio State, West Virginia, Oklahoma State, Maryland, Oregon State, and Texas Tech. They're spread and they develop receivers mentally and physically for the draft and they do well in the NFL. Plus they get the ball to the slot."
Nixon hopes to check out several options during the summer but has a busy schedule between track, 7-on-7, and summer workouts. He also plans to visit a few schools during the fall.
