Nike camp standout lands 1st offer

One of the stars of the SoCal Nike camp and overall SPARQ leader from the event was West Bakersfield's (Calif.) Princeton McCarty. McCarty is having a very good senior season recently landing his first offer and it sounds like a few more could be on the way as well.
McCarty, 5-8, 160 pounds was a relative unknown prior to the Nike camp but after blazing to a 4.34 electronic time in the 40, with a 3.69 shuttle, 38 inch vertical leap and 13 reps on the bench for a 96.83 SPARQ Rating, he quickly put his name on the map. McCarty also worked out with the running backs and was rated in the top three players at the position by the Nike coaches.

As a senior, McCarty was recently named his league's offensive player of the year after rushing for over 1,100 yards and 20 touchdowns and is averaging 10 yards a carry.
"Most of our games have been lopsided so he's only playing about three quarters too," West head coach Rich Cornford said. "He's really having a great season and recruiting is starting to pick up for him. Idaho has offered him and Fresno State, Villanova, Nevada and a few other mid majors are also very interested."
Earlier in the year, we had heard there were some academic issues with McCarty and that was hurting him a bit on the recruiting front but according to Cornford, he's getting it done there as well.
"He has his SAT, he's good there," Cornford said. "He just needs to keep working on his overall GPA. He needs to get it a little higher and then he'll be fine."
