Winston Salem (N.C.) Mt. Tabor linebacker Derek Nicholson was supposed to go to Miami this weekend on an official visit, but the 'Canes have pretty much filled up at his position. Instead he took a visit to Big 12 country.
"I took a trip to Texas instead," said the 6-foot-0, 220-pounder. "Texas was impressive, I've never seen anything like it. The facilties were amazing there. It was a great visit."
So is Texas now in the mix for the No. 30 player in the nation?
"A little bit, but they came in so late it's hard for me and my family to get to know them and get a good feel," he said. "I would still say that Florida State and North Carolina are my top two with Texas behind them and Virginia Tech behind them. We'll see how things go on my last visit."
That final visit will be to Florida State.
"I'm looking forward to it," he said. "Everyone thinks I'm going to go there because my brother (A.J.) is there, but that won't be the final factor or anything. If there's a better situation for me at UNC, Texas or VTech, I'll go there. Honestly right now I have no leader."
Nicholson will announce his decision on ESPNews on Monday, Jan. 31 sometime between 3-6PM EST.
