NFL legacy favors UVA, FSU

Safety Will Johnson out of Upper Marlboro (Md.) Frederick Douglass grew up knowing football, especially with his father Freddie Johnson being a former New England Patriot.
"He's going to go to the NFL; he's a real good one," Johnson said. "I'm his personal trainer and I have to say he'd be a great safety because he hits like a linebacker. I'm excited for him."

It's not surprising that his father says that, because Johnson is one of the top safeties in 2006 and he has already seen interest from schools including Florida, Marshall, Boston College and Virginia, Iowa and Texas Southern.
Johnson would also like to see some interest from others including Florida State, Syracuse and Miami.
Currently the leaders for Johnson's services include Florida State and Virginia.
This past season the 6-foot-0, 186-pounder helped Frederick Douglass to an 8-3 record as they reached the semifinals. For the year, Johnson posted 86 tackles, two interceptions, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. On offense, he shared the carries in a three-back rotation where he rushed for 560 yards and four touchdowns.
"I think we were disappointed that we didn't go to the state championship," he said. "And I feel I could have done more for my team."
Is there any special consideration that may make him favor a school?
"I like Syracuse, because my grandparents are there and I grew up a fan of them, but I want to go somewhere hot so that I can train year-round," Johnson said. "I want to go to the NFL and I'm looking for whatever school will make me stronger, faster and a better player."
So which position would he like to play in college?
"I want to play strong safety," he said. "Because you can run and throw your body at someone and punish them."
The strong safety and track star attended the Army All-American Combine in San Antonio and plans to attend the Nike Camp at Penn State this spring.
