Newton a future Gamecock

Long considered a future Gamecock, Bennetsville (S.C.) Marlboro County quarterback Syvelle Newton finally took his official visit to Columbia this past weekend. How did it go?
“It was cool,” said the 6-foot-2, 210-pounder. “I hung out with a lot of the other recruits like Demetris Summers and Eric Young and everyone got along really well. We had a good time.”

Newton visited Clemson last weekend and has scheduled a visit to Vanderbilt on Jan. 31.
“I won’t announce my decision until near Signing Day,” he said. “I don’t really want to name a leader, but if I had to name one it would be South Carolina. My visit was really good.”
Newton is the No. 2 player in South Carolina and ranked as the No. 5 dual-threat quarterback in the country. He has offers from more than 30 different programs.
