New York OL wastes no time

The ink is barely dry on the LOIs of the class of 2003, but Long Island (N.Y.) St. Anthony's offensive lineman Alex Fletcher didn't want to wait until next February to make his decision.
"I committed to Stanford last night, to head coach Buddy Teevens," said the 6-foot-4, 275-pounder who is the first commitment for the Cardinal recruiting class of 2004. "I've always wanted to go there. I believe we can win a national championship."
Fletcher, who already had offers from Syracuse, Southern Cal, Georgia Tech, Rutgers, Penn State and others, chose Stanford for more than just football.
"The academics at Stanford made the choice very easy," he said. "I also think they're an up-and-coming football program."
Fletcher is very mobile and blocks to the whistle. He's a natural center with good agility for his size and a very agressive nature. He'll be one of the top center prospects in the nation for 2004.
