New team interested in Kraky

With a scholarship offer from Buffalo on the table, Jermyn (Pa.) Lakeland quarterback Evan Kraky is poised to let his senior year performance open the door to offers from the major schools.
Virginia is still Kraky’s favorite, but Florida is gaining ground. Both schools called this week, along with Boston College and West Virginia.

“[Virginia offensive coordinator] Bill Musgrave said they are interested, but they want to see film of my senior year,” Kraky said. “They are looking for somebody that they believe can run their offense.”
Musgrave and new head coach Al Groh both come from the NFL and they have installed a pro-style offense that emphasizes short passes to keep defenses off balance. In Musgrave’s West Coast offense, it is critical that a quarterback buys enough time to work through a progression of reads. Kraky, who runs a 4.7 forty-yard dash, is comfortable throwing on the run.
“I always try to break down defenses when I’m running,” said Kraky.
Kraky also likes what he sees in Steve Spurrier’s Fun-n-Gun, a motion-oriented, vertical version of the West Coast offense.
“Florida throws the football a lot too -- I like their style of play,” he said. “They want to get me down for a game.”
Kraky’s trip to Gainesville might have to wait until after the high school season ends. At this point, he is focusing on a couple of exclamation points for a career in which he’s already thrown for over 6,000 yards.
“I’d like to go back to the playoffs and also break Ron Powlus’s state record for passing yards,” Kraky said.
He’s off to a good start. In last week’s 27-20 win, Kraky ran for a score and tossed for another.
