CONVERSE, Tex. -- Converse-Judson needed everything it could get from 2019 athlete Rashad Wisdom in a big matchup last Friday against Cibolo-Steele in the Rockets’ narrow 35-28 win.
Wisdom’s work on both sides of the ball paced his team and although he holds just one early offer from Texas State, he said that other FBS programs are beginning to show significant interest in him. The Bobcats must have caught the feeling that more eyes are on him and have stepped up their efforts to lock him up.
“I’ve been getting waves of letters,” he said. “Like 16 handwritten letters every couple of weeks, but they’re really on me and [running backs coach Zak Kuhr] is texting me all the time, so we have a little relationship going on, so I really like them too.”
One of the teams that appears close to making a move on Wisdom is nearby UTSA. The Roadrunners success this season has been lost on Wisdom, who has had an up-close look at the rise of the program under head coach Frank Wilson.
“He’s doing great,” he said. “Coach Wil, he’s been doing it for a couple of years now, just runs a great offense. Hats off to him, when they score points, he’s the reason why, so he’s been big for them.”
IN HIS WORDS
On Arizona, who has stepped up its interest in Wisdom
“I like them too,” he said. “They had a tough loss against Houston early in the season, but I’d like to check them out. I’ve been talking to Coach (Theron) Aych, he’s an offensive coach, so I think they’re looking harder at me at running back.”
More on UTSA
“I was talking to the safeties coach up there and [director of player personnel] Jacob LaFrance,” he said. “I like them too being from my hometown, somewhere local.”
On Virginia, who Wisdom thinks is close to offering
“My coach sent them my film and they said that they really like it, we’re just waiting for them to pull the trigger,” he said. “I think that they like me more at running back, but it doesn’t matter to me, I can play both sides - whatever they want me as.”
“I think that things are looking pretty good,” he said of the team this season. “Little changes to the program and stuff they’re making is putting it on the right direction. I really like the program up there, so hopefully I can get the chance to go up there and see them.”
RIVALS REACTION
Wisdom is a really fun prospect that should continue developing into a dynamic player on both sides of the ball. Against Steele, he ran with toughness and purpose. Outside of one trick play that the Knights ran on a halfback option pass which caught him out of position, he was solid defensively and especially tough against the run. He should have a number of offers come spring, and once those start coming his recruitment will be an interesting watch as well.
