New offers, favorites for LB Gandy

Waynesboro (Miss.) linebacker/safety prospect Steve Gandy has added a pair of new scholarship offers in recent weeks.
“Auburn and Nebraska have offered now,” he said. “I had offers from Ole Miss and Southern (Miss) before. LSU also sounds like they’re going to offer. The last time I talked to coach Muschamp, he said they really wanted me.”

Gandy (6-1, 190, 4.4) is also receiving heavy attention from Alabama, Tennessee and West Virginia. They’re all pursuing the first-team all-state selection who had 110 tackles, three fumble recoveries and one interception in helping lead Wayne County to the Class 5A championship as a junior.
Asked to evaluate the teams on his early list, Gandy offered the following:
“My favorite school is still Florida State, but I haven’t heard enough from them to really put them in my top five,” he said. “If they start showing more interest, they might be in there.
“Out of the ones who have offered me, I really like three – Auburn, Ole Miss and LSU. Auburn has a great team coming up this year and for the future. They wear that Wayne County orange and blue, too. I like that. Coach Dunn and their other coaches are real good to me. I’m thinking I’ll probably to their camp this summer if I can work it in with my job.
“Ole Miss has a nice staff, too. I like coach Cut a lot. And it’s in Mississippi, so that’s a plus if I decide to stay closer to home.
“I love LSU and coach Muschamp. They’ve had a real strong program the last couple of years, and there’s some serious talent down there right now. I know they had a huge recruiting class last year. I think you’re going to be hearing from LSU in the next couple of years. I like the atmosphere down there, too.”
In addition to the Auburn, he’s considering making an appearance at Tennessee’s camp.
Gandy carries a 3.0 GPA and has scored an 18 on his first ACT attempt, making him a solid bet to be a full qualifier.
