New offers dont sway Tookes

Fairburn (Ga.) Creekside cornerback Davion Tookes is flattered by all the attention. He really is.
But even though he continues to receive new offers just about every week, he remains committed to Virginia Tech, the program he verbaled to in February.

"Yes sir, I am … as of now," Tookes said. "I love the secondary. And I just like the team they've got. They've got good speed. I've watched their games the last couple of years. I love the way they play, how they come out as a team and how they produce wins."
On Thursday, two more schools - Maryland and South Carolina - offered Tookes. By his count, that makes eight total offers. He said he also has been offered by Duke, Kentucky, Louisville, N.C. State and Virginia.
"I'm surprised because [2010] was my first year playing corner," Tookes said. "The guys playing corner a long time, they get that type of publicity. This being my first year, I never thought I'd get this much."
Speed is a big reason why the 5-foot-11, 168-pounder has all those offers. Tookes runs the 100 meters, 200, 4x100 and 4x400 for his high school track and field team. He calls the 200 his best event. He has finished that distance in 21.9 seconds.
Because of his commitment to track, Tookes said he has not had the time this year to take any visits yet. He does, however, expect to attend Virginia Tech's upcoming spring game. Ball State and Purdue also have invited him to their respective spring games.
