"It came as a surprise to be honest," he said. "I had very little contact with Boise before. Coach Peterson called me saying he came across my tape from a friend of his who lives in New Jersey. My first impression of them is great."
Knighton shared what has impressed him about the Broncos.
"Just how well they understood the type of player I was and what was important to me as a student-athlete," he said.
Knighton has already taken an official visit to Boston College and has one scheduled to Purdue on the weekend of November 23rd. He has decided to squeeze another one in this month.
"I'll be visiting Boise State on the 17th," he said. "I want to see the campus mainly. I've never been out there before. I have a good relationship with Coach Peterson and Coach Avalos."
Overall, Knighton also believes that Michigan State and Vanderbilt are closer to pulling the trigger with an offer, while Boise State, West Virginia, Boston College, Miami and Purdue are currently recruiting him the hardest.
More time is available now for Knighton since his senior season recently concluded.
"We went 3-3. It was a very strange year," he said. "It just ended so suddenly when our last game got canceled because of Sandy."
While the season did not quite end the way he envisioned it, Knighton was happy with how everything went.
"It went well," he said. "I think I improved statistically even though we had a shorter season. I definitely improved from my junior year. My pass rushing got better on defense and I felt like my pass blocking improved on the offensive side."
