New Mexico sleeper gets offer

The Land of Enchantment has an emerging program in Albuquerque (N.M.) La Cueva. Under the guidance of head coach Fred Romero, La Cueva is playing defense on an elevated level. This defense is so good that statistically it is one of the best on the high school level in the United States.
One of the reasons La Cueva is enjoying such a great season is the performance of two-way standout cornerback/running back Frankie Baca (5-11, 175, 4.4).

As a running back Baca has rushed for 1,067 and has scored 16 touchdowns while averaging 11.7 yards per carry.
On defense Baca has 21 tackles. “Frankie doesn't get a lot of chances to intercept passes,” La Cueva coach Frankie Baca said. “Our opposition picks on our other corner. Bur our other corner has three interceptions.”
Baca is part of defense that has only allowed 14 points in six games.
“Frankie is a very smart player,” Romero said. “He has the knack of being in the right place at the right time.”
Baca projects as a lockdown cover corner on the D-I level.
New Mexico isn’t known for its abundance of football players and the New Mexico Lobo program would like to keep the word about Baca’s athletic ability within the City of Albuquerque but the cat is beginning to fall out of the bag regarding Baca.
The Lobos are the only team that has offered but New Mexico State was by the school last week and they liked what they saw. Neighbor state schools Arizona and Arizona State are also looking at Baca.
This sleeper is one to watch as the recruiting season progresses.
