New Jersey ATH headed to SEC

Camden (N.J.) athlete Shomari Moore is headed south to play his college football.
Moore (5-10, 180, 4.4) gave his verbal commitment to Kentucky earlier this week, according to his high school coach.

“I think he’s a really nice pick up for Kentucky,” said Camden coach Mark Pease. “He’s a great kid, on and off the field, the kind of kid you want your other players to model themselves on.
“On the field, the led us to the playoffs for the first time since 1988. He was our leader and our workhorse on offense.”
As a senior, he rushed for more than 1,300 yards and 17 touchdowns, caught eight passes for 128 yards and recorded 30 tackles and five interceptions on defense.
According to Pease, Kentucky is evaluating Moore as both a running back and a defensive back.
“Coach Dunn likes him on the offensive side of the ball,” he said. “He also recruited the Sprowles kid to Kansas State, and he mentioned that Shomari kind of reminds him of his style. He’s a small back, but pretty powerful.
“On defense, he’s a ballhawk at corner, and he’ll hit you, too. He’s just an all-around player.”
Moore had also received heavy interest from Virginia, Duke, North Carolina, Rutgers and Syracuse, among others.
He is a two time All-South Jersey selection in football, and is also a standout on the basketball court thanks in part to a 37-inch vertical jump.
