New interest for Kelly after strong start

Three-star Oak Park, Mich., athlete John Kelly has scored six touchdowns in the first two games of his senior season, and that has sparked interest from more schools.
"Recruiting picked up a little bit since the first game," Kelly said. "Ohio State, Michigan and Iowa State contacted me. They are talking more DB, but they said I could definitely look into the offensive side of the ball as well."

Michigan State and Minnesota have been the top two teams on Kelly's list throughout the summer, but he is open to hearing from other schools.
"I am considering pretty much any school that is interested in me," Kelly said. "I'll take my time and look into each program as the recruiting process goes on."
Michigan and Ohio State were schools that Kelly had built relationships with in the past, but have not yet offered the 5-foot-10, 191-pound prospect.
"At Michigan, I've talked to Coach (Chris) Singletary a little bit and they are talking about closing in on an offer," Kelly said. "I talked to (Ohio State) coach (Kerry) Coombs last week. He is a real cool guy and has been talking about how they want me to come down there. I am probably going to go down there for a game this year, so we'll see how that goes."
Prior to the season Kelly said his decision could come at any time and while that remains his stance, his expectation is that the recruiting process plays out for a few more months.
"I really plan on taking my visits," Kelly said. "I haven't looked at any schedules yet, but I am probably going to hit a couple games before the season is over. They will be unofficial until the season is over, then I'll probably take my officials."
Long-time leaders Michigan State and Minnesota remain high on Kelly's list and he has had communication with both programs this week.
"I just talked to (Michigan State) coach (Mark) Dantonio yesterday," Kelly said. "He's always a good guy, always really amped up.
"I was on the phone with (Minnesota) coach Jeff Jones yesterday and I was planning on calling Coach (Jerry) Kill later on today. I plan on getting back down there in a few weeks if I can."
Kelly tallied 220 all-purpose yards, including 140 on the ground, and scored three touchdowns in an opening-week loss to Detroit Cass Tech. He scored another three touchdowns last weekend, including a return touchdown on the opening kick.
