CEDAR HILL, Tex. -- 2019 running back Qualan Jones is figuring out how rewarding and frustrating a spring offseason can be all at once.

The newly-minted four-star running back has been a standout at events like the Dallas legs of the Lone Star Prospects Showcase, the Rivals Three Stripe Camps presented by adidas, and most recently, Prime 21, which was held on Saturday at his new school of Trinity Christian. Of course, college coaches weren’t at those events as they will be this weekend at Baylor, where he said that he thinks the Bears staff likes him well enough to offer him if he has a strong enough outing.

“I’ve just been working all day trying to get better, working on my footwork and all that,” he said. “I still think teams just need to see more from me running and pass-catching still.”

On Baylor, where he said that he has the most solid relationship with Joey McGuire

“I’m just looking to go out there, do my best and impress them,” he said. “Coach McGuire has been telling me to make sure that I come out there because he said he needs to see how I perform at it.”

On TCU

“I feel like they’ve just been coming closer on things, I have been speaking with them more and stuff like that,” he said. “I’ve been dealing most with Coach (Zarnell) Fitch and he’s just been telling me he thinks that I’m a good running back and he would love having me there.”

RIVALS REACTION

Jones checks all the boxes of what is looked for in an elite running back: He has great size, shiftiness and is a natural pass-catcher out of the backfield. Whatever the reasoning is as to why he has yet to pick up his first offer should be expected to be cleared up sometime in the fall, and barring any unforeseen circumstances, he should be one of the more heavily pursued prospects at his position in the state.
