Junior to Watch: Steve Harris
School: Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman

Position: Quarterback
Size and Speed: Harris stands 6-foot-3, weighs 195 pounds and runs the 40 in 4.65. His bench is 225 pounds, squat 315 and he has recorded a 30-inch vertical jump.
Honors: Harris didn’t see much action as a junior as he backed up the state of Nevada’s first-team all-state quarterback a year ago. This season should be Harris’ time to shine.
Statistics: N/A.
Favorite Colleges: Though Harris has seen limited action as a starting quarterback he is getting a lot of play. He is hearing from in the Pac10, Big XII, and Big 10. He went was invited to and attended Colorado’s junior day. Harris also invited to Oregon’s junior day. Colorado, Oregon, Oregon State, Stanford, UCLA, UNLV, Nevada and Utah are just a sampling of schools that are showing interest.
Skinny: Rivals first caught a glimpse of Harris at the UCLA football camp during the summer of 2002. He was one of the two best quarterbacks in attendance. He showed excellent decision making skills and an advanced reading of defense. What was probably the most impressive thing about Harris is he didn’t force the issue and always hit the open receiver.
Even though Harris is a sleeper there is some buzz about him already. He was invited to the Elite 11 combines and he attended the Texas A&M combine on May 4th and for those of you in northern California he will be working on his skills at the Nike camp at Stanford tomorrow May 10th.
“Steve has great speed and strong arm,” Bishop Gorman head coach Dave White said. “His experience playing quarterback at the varsity level is his only downside. Steve’s mechanics are great and I see a great year senior season ahead of him. I believe he has the skills to be a D-I quarterback.”
This is a quarterback to keep your eyes on out west. There are a lot of good quarterbacks who are expected to have breakout years. Harris is one of them.
