Nelson is closing in on a decision

Washington (D.C.) Archbishop Carroll offensive lineman Derrick Nelson is up to 15 scholarships. The 6-foot-4, 285-pounder took in his final camp recently and now is starting to focus on a decision.
"I went to Virginia Tech, it was good, they loved me, but they aren't looking for guards, they're looking for tackles so they didn't offer," he stated. "It's more like high interest. They told me they'd get back to my coach about an offer, but it's no timeframe, so that's tough."

The Virginia Tech camp is the final one for Nelson as he is now focusing on the season.
"Right now my time will be completely focused on football and a championship," he said. "I really want to win a championship for my school.
"I feel this season is going to go well for us. This is actually the first time we've had a really good senior class where the class is actually hand picked."
Still, a decision is likely, as Nelson himself mentioned no desire to take officials.
"I'm not taking any officials," he said. "I'm not going to wait until after the season.
"I think I'll have my decision probably around the first or second game in September. If not, it'll probably be about two or three weeks later."
Nelson wouldn't give specifics on who is in his list at this time, but confirmed there is a focused selection of schools.
"There is a narrowed list, it's about two or three."
