Nelson grabs first offer

Kansas City Staley linebacker Videl Nelson is officially on the board with his first scholarship offer.
The 6-foot, 197-pound outside linebacker was offered a scholarship by Wyoming late last week.

It was his first official offer, but after strong showings at events this spring - including a 4.51-second time and a 4.29 shuttle time at the Midwest Elite Combine - it likely won't be his last.
"I got a packet in the mail from Wyoming saying that they were giving me a full athletic scholarship," Nelson said. "I think Wyoming is a good, well respected program that will only get better. I am very excited and honored for being offered."
Nelson said he's also received calls this spring from Minnesota and Ole Miss. He also has heard rumblings from his high school coaching staff that an offer from Iowa could be on the way. Missouri and Kansas are another local schools showing some interest in Nelson.
Nelson is originally from Killeen, Texas, where he earned all district honors as a sophomore. He played last season at Staley and quickly has emerged as one of the top prospects in Kansas City.
"Videl is going getting better and better every day and in everything he does," Staley coach Fred Bouchard, who has coached plenty of D-I recruits in his time in the Kansas City area. "He kind of got lost in the shuffle for a little bit because of the move, but now that he's back on the map, he's going to have plenty of opportunities."
