Just when it looked like things were all normal in David Nelson’s world, all heck has broken lose. The three-star receiver from Wichita Falls (Texas) Rider was set on going to Notre Dame and didn’t give other schools a second thought. But then Tyrone Willingham was fired and that’s opened up a whole new dilemma on what’s going to happen with his future.
What’s in the present is that the 6-foot-5, 195-pound Nelson is a soft commitment to the Fighting Irish. He’s not backed off that pledge, but made it clear that he’s now taking other visits and the first one is this upcoming weekend.
“I’m going to A&M,” Nelson said. “After that, I’m going to Iowa next weekend. I don’t think I’m going to visit Kansas State, I’ve already been up there two times.”

There are two newcomers to Nelson’s list that could really shake things up – Texas and Florida. Neither has offered him, but both schools have come on strong in the past few days. There was talk that Nelson might even make it to Austin this weekend, but the trip isn’t in the cards – yet.
“Texas is close to offering, I think,” he said. “They wanted me to come up this weekend, but it didn’t work out, so we’ll try in January. Florida hasn’t offered yet, either, but they wanted a highlight tape and we mailed them one this morning.
“The receiver coach at Utah is good friends with my head coach, and they said they might offer as soon as they get it, if they like it.”
