Nebraska takes early lead for Nasir Bowers

Lakeland (Fla.) High cornerback Nasir Bowers holds a handful of major offers and is confident he’ll see his list expand in the year ahead. Still, an early leader is emerging as the Central Florida product has taken a liking to Nebraska. Below, he discusses the Huskers and where his recruitment may go from here.

ON WHICH SCHOOLS STAND OUT

“Really, it’s Nebraska. Nebraska shows me the most love. Hey like all my posts. They call me. They talk to me. I like Nebraska a lot so far. I wish they were playing.

ON IF NOT PLAYING HURTS SCHOOLS’ RECRUITING EFFORTS

“No. Not really. If they have to miss a year, I get it. They're gonna find a vaccine soon anyway.”

ON NEBRASKA

“The fan base is … out of this world. It’s seriously crazy. They told me they have been sold out for years and years. I know it’s a long time. I talk mostly to the cornerbacks coach and the linebackers coach and then the cornerbacks coach, Coach [Travis] Fisher.”

ON TRAVIS FISHER

“I like him. We talk about stuff and he shows a lot of love in a lot of different ways.”

ON SCHOOLS THAT COULD BE CLOSE TO OFFERING

“I think Cincinnati. The coaches all follow me and it seems like they might be close to offering. I’m feeling Cincinnati and FIU.”

RIVALS REACTION: Bowers transferred to powerhouse Lakeland High School this offseason and is getting more exposure because of it. Additional offers will likely arrive in time but, as things stand now, USF and Nebraska seem to be the frontrunners. Bowers is an impressive cover corner but his lack of length has held him back on the offer front thus far. That said, the three-star prospect added an inch or so this offseason and is now all of 5-foot-9 with speed that allows him to play bigger. If he grows any more as a junior, his recruitment will explode.
