receiving touchdowns called back…long ones. So I
didn’t end up with any.”
Preparing for his final prep
season, David has continues to add weight and gain
strength while maintaining his speed. He has added 15
pounds of muscle, added 20 pounds to his bench press
and 35 pounds to his squat.
Who was your toughest opponent last year? “Stevie
Hicks. He’s getting big, strong and man he is tough.
I mean tough. He’s a quiet guy who does his talking
on the field, you know.”
Interesting. Stevie Hicks identified David Horne as
the toughest opponent against whom he had played. A
coach from Michigan commented to David that he and
Stevie would make a great one-two punch in the same
backfield. Friends since about 11 or 12, Hicks and
Horne have played basketball together on traveling
teams for years. “I was gone this weekend playing
basketball. I just got back.”
Named to last year’s All Division, All Metro, All
State and All Super State teams, David continues to
garner nation wide attention. He has been contacted
by upwards of 25 colleges, receiving offers from such
notables as Wisconsin, Colorado, Colorado State,
Wyoming, Iowa, Iowa State, Michigan, Notre Dame and
Who’s recruiting David the hardest? “Colorado,
Nebraska and Iowa and they have been there since the
beginning. But Wisconsin, Notre Dame and Iowa State
have been coming on strong.”
Favorite? “Not yet. But I have a top five. Michigan,
Colorado, Nebraska, Iowa with Wisconsin and Notre Dame
tied for fifth.”
Horne on his top five:
Michigan -“My cousin Brandon Williams goes there. He went to
Central (Omaha Central HS). Every time that I talk to
him he tells me how much the Michigan coaches like
“I like a little bit of everything. They’re in the
Big 10 and the Big 10 is spread out. They have a nice
big stadium and the coaches are nice.”
Colorado -“They offered me first. Been in there since the
beginning and it’s not too far. I really like coach
Nebraska -“It’s home. My family can come to all the games. I
have a lot of friends down there so I won’t have a
hard time adapting. Their offense is based on the running back.”
“I went to all the home games last year. I’ve met
the whole staff and they are really nice. Coach Young
and Coach Gillespie are recruiting me. They send me
stuff daily.”
Iowa -“Coach Ferentz is recruiting me. I went to the
spring game and I liked what I saw. The facilities,
the weight room, the locker room, where they eat.”
Wisconsin -“One of the coaches came to the school and he is real
nice. They just starting coming on strong and that’s
a good thing. They talked a lot about how the staff
is dedicated to making sure you get your degree.”
Notre Dame -“They are always on television. It is a Catholic
school and private and I went to a Catholic school
before, so that wouldn’t be problem. All that about
being a Catholic school is actually good.”
Asked to comment on himself as if he were a reporter,
David stressed, “I’m versatile and I catch on quick
then act! I’m quick, fast and have good hands. I
read defenses good. I block, catch, go inside or
outside…a little of everything.”
