Nebraska out with R100 CB Mario Goodrich; three January visits set

Although he de-committed from Nebraska on Dec. 2, Lee’s Summit (Mo.) West four-star cornerback Mario Goodrich still seemed a good bet to eventually sign with the Cornhuskers. Just over a week after Scott Frost was named head coach, though, Nebraska is out and a trio of SEC programs appear to be in good position for the Rivals100 prospect.

THE LATEST

Goodrich had hoped the previous staff he originally committed to would be retained. He was particularly close with defensive backs coach Donte Williams, who was not held over on Frost’s staff. He did confirm that there were a couple conversations with the Nebraska staff since Frost was brought on, but that he was not considering Nebraska anymore. He did take an official visit to Lincoln in November, but that leaves him with four official visits still to take. Three of those official visits have been set – LSU on Jan. 12, Georgia on Jan. 19 and Ole Miss on Jan. 26.

IN HIS WORDS

“I have one more (official visit, I) just don’t know where I would take it yet.”

RIVALS’ REACTION

Nebraska being out is surprising and has major implications for this recruitment because they would have been the assumed odds-on favorite to eventually re-land him. There will be no official visit taken this upcoming weekend because Mario has a basketball game to play, but there is one last official visit weekend available in early February before National Signing Day if he does decide to schedule a fifth official visit. In the meantime, this recruitment goes into the holiday season with the SEC looking likely to add the services of one of the Midwest’s top remaining uncommitted prospects.
