ND legacy names early leaders

Wilkes-Barre (Pa.) E. L. Meyers inside linebacker/tight end Michael Gorham grew up watching Notre Dame football like a lot of kids his age did, but he had insight that most kids his age didn’t have. His dad once played for the Fighting Irish. Will his kids be able to tell the same story?
“I am just looking for a good education, and a place where I can play football,” he said. “I wouldn’t want to go too far. I would like to stay somewhere on the east coast.”

While he boasts numerous early letters, Lehigh and Princeton are his early leaders. His dad, also Michael Gorham, played offensive tackle at Notre Dame, and he would consider following in his dad’s footsteps, but feels his size may be a detriment.
“I wanted to play there, but I don’t know if I am big enough,” he said. At 6-foot-2 and 200 pounds, Gorham runs an impressive 4.5-second 40-yard dash. He lettered as a freshman, then has started the last two seasons.
As a junior he recorded 120 tackles, and also added one touchdown catch. He also threw the Javelin for the track team. He made the all-scholastic team for his efforts in the classroom.
“I am aggressive and all that stuff,” Gorham described himself. “I am a physical player, and I get out quick to make plays. I am always around the play.”
Michael attended a Penn State game last fall and also camped at State College last summer. He plans to return to Penn State this year and will also go to Villanova.
An excellent student, Gorham maintains a 3.8 GPA and has already scored an 1,100 on the SAT. He plans to major in business management.
