ND early leader for QB Whitney

Back in January quarterback Chris Whitney out of Philadelphia (Pa.) St. Joseph's Prep picked up his first scholarship offer from Rutgers. Though no other schools have offered him yet, the 6-foot-3, 215-pounder is getting plenty of interest from schools across the country.
"I'm getting a lot of mail from Penn State, Ohio State, Michigan, Stanford, Vanderbilt, Tennessee, South Carolina, Syracuse, Iowa, Virginia, Notre Dame and others," he said. "I wouldn't say I have any favorites at this time as I'm waiting to get a response from all the other colleges I sent out film to. I'm still very wide open to the whole recruiting process.

"My family has grown up as Notre Dame fans and that is definitely a school I'm looking at. I've been following them since my grandfather and whenever we watch them it's a big family event."
In preparation for the Nike Camp at Penn State, Elite 11 tryout and Elite College Combine this spring, Whitney is working on certain aspects of his game.
"I'm really just working on my throwing and accuracy," he said. "I think those are the things I need to work on the most. I'd say my best skills right now are my leadership and my ability to throw on the run."
Last season the quarterback prospect accounted for nearly 2,000 yards of offense and 25 touchdowns. He was named MVP of the Philadelphia Catholic League as a junior.
