ND commit Smith reacts to news

Highland Park, Ill. three star ranked inside linebacker prospect Scott Smith (6-foot-2, 225 pounds) was in a free period at school this afternoon when he heard the news that the University of Notre Dame had fired head coach Tyrone Willingham. Smith gave Willingham and the University of Notre Dame his verbal commitment back on July 16th.
"I was in a free period outside of the cafeteria when one of the security guards told me they just heard on the radio that Coach Willingham was fired," Smith said. "I went into the computer lab and checked out the news on the internet."

"I was very, very surprised at the news. It was all sort of a shock and it was very surprising. I'm scheduled to make my official visit this weekend to Notre Dame. I guess I'm going to wait and see what happens at this point, and I'm still planning to make my official visit this weekend unless I hear something different."
As far as his thoughts towards his recruiting is concerned, Smith is still very solid in his decision.
"I was told along time ago that strange things can happen in this process, and that I should fall in love with the school that I wanted to commit to first and foremost. I feel very bad for Coach Willingham, he is a great guy who I really enjoyed talking with and getting to know. I committed to the University of Notre Dame, and I still feel that way. I'm very committed to the University of Notre Dame."
"I'll just wait and see what happens, and then I'll go from there."
