NC State Gets First Commitment

Last year the NC State coaching staff had only one commitment heading into their 2001 football season. They've already received their first oral commit for 2003 and he's a very good one.
"Mario committed to NC State a few weeks back," said Richlands, N.C. head coach Kevin Wilson of his star player Mario Williams. "He really liked the coaches and the campus and had been to a few games last season. He loved it."

Williams, a 6-foot-6, 250-pound defensive end/tight end, committed to NC State over North Carolina and East Carolina. He made 105 tackles last season splitting time between defensive end and middle linebacker.
"Mario runs very well," said Wilson. "We always played him on the wide side of the field and when teams run away from him we played him at middle linebacker."
Williams has attracted the interest of some big programs of late.
"Notre Dame and Tennessee have been sending alot of stuff and calling lately," said Wilson. "I still think he's going to get a bunch more offers before this is done so we'll see what he decides in the end. It's a long way to Signing Day."
