NC safety is getting early attention

Shelby (N.C.) safety Van Eskridge is getting attention after putting together a great junior campaign. Eskridge, regarded as one of the top safety prospects in North Carolina, is getting ready for his senior season. Who is showing interest in the talented athlete?
"I am getting the most interest from NC State, North Carolina, Wake Forest, Louisiana State, Tennessee, Virginia Tech, and Virginia," said the 6-foot-1, 185-pound athlete who runs the 40-yard dash in 4.5 seconds.

As a junior, Eskridge racked up six interceptions and 96 tackles as a safety, but he is being recruited for positions other than defensive back.
"I am being recruited mainly as a safety, but I am also being recruited to play running back and wide receiver. I have no preference, but I can tell you that I like to hit people."
What is Eskridge focusing on this offseason to best prepare him for college play?
"I want to get my weight up. I want to finish next year at about 210 pounds. The key will be not losing speed in the process. I am working with a speed trainer to help knock a few clicks off of my 40-yard dash time."
What does Van look for in a school?
"Education is very important to me so that comes first. I love the ACC and playing in a good conference is important. The coaching staff and the stability of the staff are also important to me."
Eskridge projects as a full qualifier. He currently has a 3.2 GPA and he scored 920 on the SAT.
