Nicholson's brother, A.J., plays for Bobby Bowden at Florida State, but Derek maintains that he has no favorites.
"I am wide open. I have to see what programs are out there that fit me the best. I want to go somewhere where I feel comfortable, has just as good an academic reputation as football program, and be surrounded by good Christian people."
Nicholson racked up 181 tackles, 27 tackles for a loss, 10 sacks, and three interceptions last season. What does he plan to do this offseason to improve those numbers?
"I am working with the track team to improve my speed. I am also working on my strength and agility. By the way, I had 172 tackles as a sophomore."
Nicholson said that his family takes academics very serious. He has made his family proud with his 3.7 GPA and 19 on the ACT.
