NC kicker lands first offer

It's unusual for kickers to pull scholarships this early in the recruiting process, but one in North Carolina did not too long ago. Wilmington (N.C.) Hoggard kicker Ian Durham landed his first offer from a Division I school recently.
"I got offered by Navy," he said. "They offered me about two weeks ago. I'm real excited. It's pretty early for a kicker to get an offer and pretty rare."

What does Durham think of the Naval Academy?
"I know they have a good program and a good school," he said. "They have one of the best educations in the country. I actually went up there to kick and I impressed them enough where they got back to me and offered."
Interest is coming for Durham from a few other schools as well.
"William & Mary was really impressed with me. I kicked a 55-yard field goal there," he said. "I'm hoping to hear from them more. They want me to come to a game.
"I went to East Carolina and I think they liked me a lot. Basically they want me to walk-on my first year. A lot of schools are asking me about that and I'll consider it if I feel I can win the job."
Even though it's still early in the process, does Durham like anybody?
"I think Navy is probably my top choice," he said. "It's been one of my top choices for a little while. It's an elite school and not many get the opportunity to go to a place like that."
Durham earned all-area as a junior last season.
