National interest in Louisville commit rising

Louisville commit Trenell Troutman scored a pair of touchdowns and had a third one called back after the fact in a state playoff game on Friday. This is notable because Troutman isn’t a two-way player.

He functions as a defensive back and nothing more. It didn’t stop the class-of-2018 from taking over a game, however, and that’s one of the reasons his offer list is expected to expand in the coming year. Troutman is a Louisville commit and happy to be one, sure, but he’s certainly not ruling out taking a look around.

He won’t ever hurt for options, after all.

“Everybody’s talking to me,” Troutman said following his two-touchdown performance. “Everyone; Syracuse, Notre Dame, Florida State. Alabama has been hitting me up. Florida State wants me but they haven’t offered yet.”

Just what a Florida State offer would do to change Troutman’s mind is unclear. He admits the allure of the Seminoles in real. He won’t hide that. At the same, time, however, he says he’ interested in exploring the world beyond the Sunshine State’s borders.

“I’d look at Florida State or anyone, but I want to go up the road,” Troutman said. “I’m a traveler.”

“Traveler” or not, there’s local interest in Troutman and it seems to be returned. Miami appeals to the junior for a number of reasons and he’s not shy about stating his feelings. Staying home is an option for Troutman despite his commitment status.

“I’ve been to every Miami game,” he said “I love Miami. They want me.”

RIVALS REACTION: Louisville’s great season gives the Cardinals a solid chance of hanging on to Troutman, but this recruitment is far from over. Troutman’s offer list will likely grow quickly this offseason, making hanging on to his commitment for more than a year a tall task. His odds of signing with Louisville probably hover somewhere around or just lower than 50 percent at this juncture.
