The 6-foot-5, 310-pounder, who hasn't received any early scholarship offers, is a prospect that has a good chance at developing into an even better player than he already is. According to Ashby, his school implemented a weight training program during the fall and his bench press max has gone up nearly 100 pounds.
In terms of schools he likes, Clemson and N.C. State are currently on top.
"I would love to get an offer from either one of those schools because both are agricultural schools and that's what I want to major in," Ashby said. "I also like Tennessee because of the agricultural program there."
Duke, Auburn, Vanderbilt, Georgia Tech and South Carolina also have been sending letters and have Ashby interested.
"I'm not going to limit myself to just agricultural schools," he said. "Because I may want to be a history teacher and a coach."
Ashby took an unofficial visit to Clemson in December and took in one of the Tigers' practices for the Tangerine Bowl, where Clemson capped an 8-4 season by defeating Colorado, 19-10.
"I went to watch them practice and enjoyed myself," he said.
Ashby plan on going to N.C. State's Junior Day on Feb. 26 in Raleigh. He hopes to make a return trip to Clemson on May 21 for the NIKE Camp and also potentially will be at the Rivals.com Junior Day on March 25 at South Carolina.
