N.C. event to bring out the stars

On April 11 at Mallard Creek High School in Charlotte, N.C., VTO Sports will hold its Elite 100 Showcase and Junior Day, an event designed to showcase rising senior and junior athletes with Division I talent. Led by numerous prospects with D-I offers like linebacker Ty Linton from Charlotte (N.C.) Christian, some of the best from North Carolina, South Carolina and other states will compete. Linton, who has offers from more than 10 programs and received his latest from Butch Davis and North Carolina this past weekend, leads a strong group at linebacker. Mount Ulla (N.C.) West Rowan linebacker Chris Smith, who has offers from East Carolina and Virginia, also leads the way and will be joined by Lenoir (N.C.) Hibriten linebacker Darius Lipford, a Duke commitment, and Hampton (Va.) Phoebus stud linebacker Chaz Robinson.
The running backs will be led by Adrian Scott from Jacksonville (N.C.) Northside and Damarius Harper from Tarboro, N.C. in addition to 2011 standout Eric Davidson from Greensboro (N.C.) Grimsley.
The defensive line will be led by Darius Kilgo, a 6-foot-5, 311-pounder from Matthews (N.C.) Weddington with offers from Tennessee, Illinois and Maryland early and is one of the top defensive tackles in the region. He will be joined along the defensive line by Durham (N.C.) Hillside big man Eric Young and Wadesboro (N.C.) Anson defensive tackle Tra Thomas, who was a standout at he recent Rivals.com Five Star Showdown in Greensboro earlier in March.
Along the offensive line, Chester, S.C. offensive guard Kalon Davis and Tarboro, N.C. offensive tackle Takoby Cofield lead the way. Davis, a 6-foot-5, 325-pounder, has offers from Clemson, NC State, Vanderbilt and Wake Forest while Cofield, a 6-foot-6, 289-pounder has early offers from Duke and East Carolina. Other offensive linemen of note include Monroe (N.C.) Piedmont offensive tackle Mitchell Simpson, Havelock, N.C. big man Corey Robinson and Wilmington (N.C.) New Hanover tackle Anthony Thomas.
Two top tight ends highlight the receivers at the event as Asheville, N.C. standout Trevor Sawyer and Fayetteville (N.C.) Jack Britt 2011 stud Eric MacLain will work against the defensive backs. Sawyer has an early offer from East Carolina while MacLain will be one of the top prospects in state for 2011 and has an early verbal offer from Tennessee.
At defensive back, Duncan (S.C.) Byrnes cornerback Zach Miller leads the way with an early offer from North Carolina and heavy interest from others. Charlotte (N.C.) Vance safety Dechane Durante, who has an early Illinois offer, will also be on hand and 2011 safety Mark Bridges from Matthews (N.C.) Butler will be one to watch as he's emerging as one of the top prospects in his class.
The quarterback position is one of the strongest groups at the event so far. Matthews (N.C.) Weddington quarterback Anthony Boone, an early Duke commitment, will be on hand as will 2011 stud quarterback Christian Lemay from Matthews (N.C.) Butler, who has early verbal offers from Florida State and Virginia . Other top quarterbacks include Charlotte (N.C.) Independence signal-caller Anthony Carrothers, Charlotte (N.C.) Victory Christian dual-threat James Harvin and 2011 standouts Price Litton from the Charlotte area, Vad Lee from Durham (N.C.) Hillside and Marquise Williams from Charlotte (N.C.) Mallard Creek.
Some huge names are also considering attending the event including Duncan (S.C.) Byrnes running back Marcus Lattimore, the nation's No. 4 player, Charlotte (N.C.) Independence cornerback Victor Hampton, ranked as the No. 58 player in the country, Shallotte (N.C.) West Brunswick defensive end Alfy Hill, ranked as the No. 60 player in the country and others.
