My list gets bigger and bigger

This installment is from five-star linebacker Brian Toal of Wykoff (N.J.) Don Bosco Prep. Toal talks about the first day of phone calls, his unofficial visit to Boston College last weekend and his upcoming trip to Penn State.

Our football team is now 3-0 we recently beat our arch-rivals Bergen Catholic.

The score was 49-8. The game was at Bergen Catholic in front of 6,500 people. This is the biggest rivalry in the state and, although I have never lost to them, every year it is our biggest game in the regular season.

The game started off slow as our quarterback was sacked and fumbled on the second play of the game on the 40-yard line. They recovered the fumble and proceeded to drive down the field due to two pass interference calls. It was first-and-goal at the 6-yard line when our defense decided to turn it up and stopped them on fourth-and-one. Our team then went 98 yards for our first score.

We stopped them again on fourth down with an interception, but they got the ball back after we fumbled on the interception return. However, our defense stopped them again and we continued our scoring ways.

We made the score 35-0 at the half and then scored on our first two drives of the second half to push the lead to 49-0 at the beginning of the third quarter. The game became a junior varsity football game from there. At this point our arch-rival was able to score their eight points.

On the day I had five touchdowns. I had three rushing, one receiving and one interception for a touchdown. My offensive stats were: eight carries for 160 yards, three catches for 70 yards and four touchdowns. Defensively I had one interception, 12 tackles, three for a loss and one touchdown. I received North Jersey Athlete of the Week, State Player of the Week from The Star Ledger and National Player of the Week from USA Today.

As far as recruiting, it has been the same thing -- I come home and read mail and talk to coaches. On Monday, I received 35 pieces of mail and talked to a couple coaches. Though every player in the nation's list seems to be getting smaller and smaller mine seems to be getting bigger and bigger. Right now, I am wide open and am I excited to see how the rest of the season goes.
