O.J. Murdock signed with South Carolina.
Sherod Murdock currently has another SEC program on top at the moment. He camped at Alabama last summer and the Crimson Tide extended a scholarship offer based on his performance there.
"Their program, their connection with the players, the discipline that they have there and their new facilities are all things I like about Alabama," he said. "I can see myself there. It's a good place to be."
Dave Ungerer is recruiting Murdock for the Crimson Tide.
"He's a great person." he said, "I've always thought he was a good guy and he's lived up to those expectations, and that he's a good guy.
"(Alabama) is a wonderful school and just amazing," he said.
The camp experience he had last summer in Tuscaloosa did a lot to help him form that opinion.
"The facilities that they have that are new now, they were building when I was there," he said. "They are also adding on to their stadium. It was just nice talking to the coaches and getting their thoughts on things, like how I play, that was good."
The Tide appears to have the early lead.
"They are probably No. 1 right now," he said.
Murdock currently has verbal offers from Maryland, N.C. State, Pittsburgh and Ohio State.
"I don't really know much about those schools," he said. "Maryland seems like a good program to me. I've seen their games on TV and they seem like a good team. Pretty much the same thing with N.C. State. Ohio State is a great program. I saw their national championship run a couple of years ago."
South Carolina also is involved. The Gamecocks, with recruiting coordinator David Reaves taking the lead, are recruiting Murdock.
His brother has been talking to him about South Carolina specifically and about college life in general.
"I talk to my brother about them all the time," Murdock said. He's been a big help to me by teaching me about college life. I know I am going to be there in about two years and he told me what to expect in college."
"I'm going to make my own decision, but he helps me as far as that school goes," he said. "South Carolina is up there," he said. "Maryland, Michigan and others may get official visits."
In terms of in-state schools, there is one that stands out at this time.
"Florida has always been the favorite," he said. "Urban Meyer came to my house for my brother. He said he'd be back for me, so that's exciting."
Don't expect an early decision from Murdock.
"Right now, I'm just trying to stay humble," he said. "My brother told me not to rush and to just breathe. Coaches are going to come in and just blow you away like when (O.J.) met Steve Spurrier. I was mesmerized because (Spurrier) is my all-time favorite college coach."
This summer, Murdock is planning on camping at Michigan, returning to Tuscaloosa for the Alabama camp and also heading to South Carolina.
Murdock feels that there are several aspects of his game that make him a Division I-A prospect.
"I'm more of a cover corner," he said. "I'm a lockdown guy that can cover my entire side of the field. I'm a hard worker. I'm dedicated to my teammates and that's how I am."
His coach has been impressed with the three-year starter.
"He has been with us going on his third year now," Middleton head coach Harry Hubbard said. "He started all 12 games his sophomore year at cornerback. We're looking for him to be a great corner. He has the height, he has the speed. We're looking for him to do some outstanding things for us this year."
In terms of his senior year, he has several goals.
"I'm trying to have a breakout season," he said. "This past season, I didn't have a great season, I just plan on having a breakout season this year."
