Trayvon Mullen’s Signing Day decision provided a boost to Clemson’s recruiting class and a blow to that of Florida State, LSU and others. The Rivals250 defensive back chose the Tigers over the Seminoles and Tigers during a ceremony at his high school.

The decision, Mullen said, came down to fit.

“It was just the opportunity,” Mullen said of the reasons behind his commitment to the Tigers. “ I love the program. I felt love in the environment with all the people.

“It was just different when I stepped on campus”

An Army All-American, Mullen was thought to be a Florida State lean early in his commitment and began to heavily consider LSU in the months leading into Signing Day. His choice of Clemson was a bit of a surprise, but the Tigers were always a major player in the process. Mullen took official visits to Louisville, Clemson and LSU in the last month. TCU and Louisville were also among his finalists. And while Les Miles and company got the last visit, it was Dabo Swinney that got t the last laugh.

“I kind of had it set when I stepped on campus [for my Clemson visit],” Mullen said. “My decision was made, but I was second-guessing myself. I just took time out to make sure it was the decision I wanted to make. “

A four-star prospect, Mullen is the No. 10 cornerback and the No. 117 prospect in the 2016 class.
