MTSU leads for Florida-based safety but LSU interest looms

Kendrick Torain

Kendrick Torain holds just two offers as things stand now. The class-of-2018 safety expects more and is likely right in doing so. It’s early in the process for the Tampa (Fla.) Jesuit High School standout but that doesn’t mean he’s equipped with clichés and nothing more.

Sure he Bowling Green and Middle Tennessee State are the only two programs to make things official with offers thus far, but that doesn’t mean he’s without a favorite.

“I like Middle Tennessee better,” Torain said on Saturday. “I just feel like I know them better. I just like what I know better. They like that I’m 6-foot-2.

And so, at least for now, there’s a leader in the process. That’s subject to change however should certain other school get involved in the year ahead. According to Torain, that may be on the verge of taking place.

“I really want to visit LSU,” he said. “They are talking to me a little. They are just telling me that they like my size and like the way I look on film. “

Should LSU offer now or down the road, it will change things. The impact such a thing will have on his recruitment won’t be subtle, either. The Tigers could give the situation a full-blown makeover.

“LSU is sorta like my dream school,” Torain said. “A whole bunch of my family is from Louisiana and I like the way they play. I like the high intensity.”

RIVALS REACTION: Projecting Torian’s recruitment at this juncture is an exercise in futility. Everything is a projection and based on hypotheticals. LSU will shoot to the top of his list should they offer and Middle Tennessee State will land him if things remain unchanged. Anything in the miles in between is a crapshoot. Things will likely become more clear this spring.
