MTSU commit close to SEC, ACC offers

Even though he's not the focus of his team's offense, Shelbyville (Tenn.) Central running back Marquis Morton is doing enough this season to catch the attention of some big-time schools.
The two-star back has been committed to Middle Tennessee since back in June, but thinks he could be close to his first SEC and ACC offers.

"The closest I feel to offering are probably Kentucky and Duke," Morton said. "They're the ones that are calling me the most right now."
Morton also said Tennessee, Akron, Purdue and Minnesota have started to contact him over the past week. He said that if he does pick up some new offers he will consider taking additional visits, but he's comfortable with MTSU right now.
"I would have to consider it a little bit but right now I'm pretty good with MTSU," he said. "…They told me coming in I could battle for a position and playing time, I like that. I like to talk about early playing time."
Morton has taken unofficial visits to every MTSU game this season, and plans to take his official visit to the school later on in the year. He's also planning to take officials to Western Kentucky and South Alabama and saving his last two for late arrivers.
"I've talked to WKU quite a bit and I want to take one there," he said. "South Alabama has been talking to me a lot and I'd to go there and then save the last two in case I do pick up some more offers."
Morton has been a jack of all trades this year for Central, playing every snap on offense and defense, as well as serving as the team's punter and primary kick and punt returner. Through seven games, he had 608 yards rushing on 71 carries and 14 touchdowns.
"I've been playing both ways since my sophomore year," he said. "I like it but I think I'd be better off at running back if I got a rest but my team needs me to play all over the field."
