Moyas phone ringing off the hook

With September 1 upon us, recruiting really starts to heat up. Players really know where they stand when the phone calls start rolling in and one player who has had his phone ringing off the hook is (Calif.) Oak Ridge tight end Ryan Moya.
Moya, 6-2, pounds had a very solid junior season but it was his off the charts showing at the NorCal Nike Camp that really got the ball rolling for him. All Moya did was run 4.59 in the 40, 4.38 in the shuttle, jump 30 inches the vertical and do 38 reps on the bench. His overall SPARQ Rating of 99.0 was one of the five best recorded during the entire Nike tour.

As for the phone calls, Moya sounded almost exhausted when we caught up with him earlier tonight.
“UCLA was the first to call, they called at 7:00 in the morning,” Moya said. “It was cool though, I had already told them they could call that early and I think they liked the idea of being the first to call me. I also talked with USC, Northwestern, Indiana, Fresno State, Cal, Washington State, Oregon and Colorado State.
“It was cool, I had some good conversations with some coaches I had not talked to before. I really liked talking with Coach Embree and Coach Dorrell at UCLA. Washington State and Oregon made a good impression too. USC told me in the past they only wanted me as a fullback/H back type but said they thought I was a heck of a player and would recruit me as a tight end despite my height.
“Right now, I’m just going to go through the process. I have some schools I like a lot but I don’t have a top five or any idea of where I’m going to visit. Today was pretty overwhelming and I know it’s only going to get crazier for me. I’m going to have to take all my trips during the season too because I also play basketball at our school and don’t want to miss any time there. All of our football games are on Friday’s so I’ll have to take my visits on Saturday. That’s what Austin (Collie, former teammate now at BYU) did last year and he said it worked for him so that’s what I’m going to do.
“I still have a lot of questions I want to get answered and haven’t closed the door to any new schools who might come in. That’s why I can’t really narrow things down right now, I just don’t know enough about some of the schools recruiting me and I want to get to know the coaches from those schools better before I try and narrow my list down to a final five.”
