Mountaineers land local OG Snodgrass

West Virginia stayed in-state for their eighth commitment of the recruiting season landing Nitro, W.V. offensive guard Chad Snodgrass. The 6-foot-3, 302-pounder selected the Mountaineers over offers from Marshall and Eastern Kentucky.
"I committed to them earlier today," he said. "I picked West Virginia because first of all they are the biggest school in-state and I wanted to represent my state. The other big thing was the coaches. They made me feel at home there and like apart of the family. I wanted to be apart of that."

In particular, offensive line coach Rick Trickett was big in Snodgrass's decision.
"He is one of the greatest guys," he said. "He is an ex-marine and a hard coach, but he knows what he's talking about and if you listen to him he'll make you the best you can be. I also liked coach Rodriguez a lot. He's a standout guy that is a polite and respectful person and that means even more to me coming from my coach."
The coaching staff recruited the in-state lineman to play either offensive guard or center.
"Coach Trickett talked to me about how they are looking at me for both positions," he said. "He actually discussed possibly greyshirting me this year meaning I'd start school in January. I wouldn't mind that at all because it'll give me more time to develop."
Over the next year, Snodgrass has a lot to do before he heads to Morgantown.
"I really am going to try to stay in shape and possibly even drop five or ten pounds," he said. "I want to get quicker and really work on my footwork because I think you can always work on that."
Growing up Snodgrass was a fan of both the Thundering Herd and Mountaineers.
"It means a lot for me to play for my state," he said. "Everyone always says that West Virginia only looks out of state, but I'm proof that people here can play football too. I have one more thing to say, Go Eers!
