Mosley has a plan for Army AA Bowl

THEODORE, Ala. - When Theodore (Ala.) High linebacker C.J. Mosley accepted a formal invitation Tuesday afternoon to play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl on January 9, 2010, it wasn't the only recent accolade for the 6-foot-2, 215-pound prospect.

A few weeks earlier, his high school student body selected him as their Homecoming King, and according to Theodore Head Coach Bill Meredith, that recognition is more in line with what most students relate to when they think about his star player.

"The kids around here just know C.J. as an extremely likeable, humble and terrific young man. I think they all know he can play a little football, but at the end of the day they know C.J. as how they see him every day at school," said Meredith. "All of the students here like C.J. and think the world of him. He doesn't have an ounce of ego in him and he would be willing to help any of them if he could.

"C.J. is the total package. His character is impeccable, he is a good student and he is a tremendous football player. They just don't make them any better than him."

Mosley began earning playing time for the Class 6A Bobcats as a freshman before a breakout sophomore campaign started a little buzz that Mosley could develop into a special football player.

That is when Mosley produced one of the more dominating seasons in the southeast for a defensive player with an astonishing 176 tackles in 13 games as a junior. The scholarship offers began to pour in, and Mosley has followed that up with 108 tackles through nine games for the 9-1 Bobcats who are guaranteed at least one more regular season and one more playoff game.

The U.S. Army All-American invitation is the culmination of one of the more storied careers for a defensive football player in the history of the Mobile area - a region ripe with football talent year in and year out.

"This is truly a blessing for me that I get to represent my school, teammates and family in San Antonio among the best players in the country. I am looking forward to competing with competition from all over the country," said Mosley. "I am friends with Nico Johnson (freshman linebacker at Alabama) and I remember him playing in this game last January and just playing so well. I hope I can have the same kind of showing."

Mosley plans to make a splash not only on the field but off as he has decided to announce his college decision during the game.

"I think this will be a great opportunity for me to just let everyone know my intentions on television so that way everyone back home like my friends and teammates can see where I go as soon as it happens," said Mosley. "I want to share the occasion with everyone, and this is the best way to do it."

Before making that decision, Mosley has some thinking to do regarding his ultimate college decision.

"Right now it is between Alabama, Auburn and Tennessee. LSU was in it too, but they sort of fell out of it after I visited there recently. Tennessee has recruited me ever since Coach (Lance) Thompson went there from Alabama, but lately they have been recruiting me harder and I am going to visit there this weekend for the South Carolina game. Alabama and Auburn have both recruited me hard for a long time and there are things I like about both schools. I know a lot of people at Alabama and have a great relationship with Coach (James) Willis. At Auburn I just really like the coaching staff and how tight their players and coaches seem to be with one another."

Mosley is the No. 3-ranked inside linebacker nationally by Rivals.com.
