Morton Twins Back From Colorado

In a surprising twist, two of the West Coast’s top players could be shut out of a scholarship. Riverside (Calif.) J.W North’s Dion and Damon Morton visited Colorado this past weekend but it doesn’t appear the Buffs have a scholarship for the two and that’s only half the story.
The Morton twins both had incredible seasons leading J.W North to a perfect 14-0 season, a No. 2 ranking in the final Cal Hi State rankings and both were two of eight finalist for State Player of the Year.

Damon caught 64 passes for 1,563 yards and 19 touchdowns. He also rushed for 414 yards and four scores and had five interceptions on defense. Dion always covered the other team’s top receiver and led the Huskies with seven interceptions. Offensively, Dion completed 103-160 passes for 2,344 yards and 32 touchdowns while rushing for close to 500 more yards.
Solid credentials but instead of schools jumping on the bandwagon, they’re jumping off of it.
“Colorado was real nice,” Dion said. “They have a beautiful campus and the city of Boulder itself is very nice. They have the mountains and all and the air is so clean there. The people treated us great and football wise, Colorado plays in the Big 12, which is a great conference.
“Unfortunately, right now Colorado said they only have two scholarships left to give out and they said they wanted to use those on linemen. They’re basically out for receivers and defensive backs. We visited Colorado State in December but they recently told us they only have one scholarship left to give.
“I guess a couple more could open up because they said they have some J.C commitments who might not qualify and if so, it could open up an offer for us. Still they didn’t give us a timeline or anything so we’re just playing the waiting game right now. A lot of schools that offered us early on have all run out of spaces. We both liked Arizona a lot early but we haven’t heard a thing from them since the coaching change. Fresno State may come in for a home visit this week and that would be great if they offer. Damon and I just want to go somewhere and play football so we’re just being as patient as we can be.”
