Morton talks Alabama commitment

Javier Morton has always had Alabama on his mind. The 2020 defensive back out of Stone Mountain (Ga.) Stephenson recently committed to the Crimson Tide, but it was not a spur of the moment decision.

The 6-foot-1, 187 pound sophomore attended a couple of games in 2016, he was back for another one in 2017 and he has visited Tuscaloosa five times already.

He has a good feel for what it is like at Alabama and that is what led to his commitment.

"It is all about the attitude," said Morton. "Nick Saban, his team and just the attitude they have there is what I love. It is a winning attitude and it is all about business. That is what I want to be a part of on the next level."

Defensive backs coach Derrick Ansley was the coach Morton called to deliver the news to and the two have developed a strong relationship. When commitment came up, Morton felt Ansley had an idea it was coming.

"We talk a lot and when I got the offer from Alabama August 1, coach Ansley knew how excited I was about it. I think he may be have surprised a little when I called him to commit, but he knew how much I liked Alabama.

"Alabama is my dad's team, it has been my team and I do not think I shocked coach Ansley when I called to commit to him."

To have over a dozen offers and be considered as one of the top defensive backs in his class, Morton is living out a dream right now. He has worked hard to get to this point and when he thinks about himself lining up in the crimson, it is a special feeling.

"It was a dream come true when I got the Alabama offer and it is hard to believe that I am now committed to them," said Morton. "I have always wanted this and always dreamed about this, so it is very exciting.

"The Alabama fan base is big, they make you feel welcome there and I love the vibe there. It just makes you want to get out on the field and play. It is exciting to think I could be out there in a few years."

With the commitment coming early in the recruiting process, Morton is not ready to shut things down. He added an offer from Georgia recently, he likes Auburn, Clemson and he is still going to take other visits and build other relationships.

"I am still going to look at other schools. I am committed to Alabama, but I will keep my options open too.
