More schools coming after Mathis

Joe Mathis picked up an offer from Indiana earlier this month and it surprised the Upland, Calif., defensive end since he had just started his junior season.
A few weeks later, many more schools are now getting involved in his recruitment and Mathis said he's definitely excited about where things are headed.

"It's been really fast," Mathis said. "I never thought I'd have an offer right now. I'm not complaining. It's been fast and overwhelming."
Maryland, Tennessee, Washington and Utah are the four newest programs involved with Mathis, a 6-foot-4, 235-pound prospect who also has Arizona State and Oregon on his list.
Mathis, who finished with about 13 tackles and three sacks in a win over Rancho Cucamonga this past weekend to keep Upland undefeated, said he's especially excited to be hearing from Washington because his cousin, Terrence Ross, plays basketball for the Huskies.
"I'm really excited," Mathis said. "I'm hearing Washington might offer me really soon because I did really good against Rancho and Etiwanda. I've been playing well so I'm looking forward to going out there and checking out some schools.
"It would be really big to get a Washington offer because my cousin, Terrence Ross, he goes there to play basketball and when we were little we always talked about wanting to go to the same college. I love the team. I've been watching them since I was little so I like them."
Since it's still so early in his recruitment, Ross doesn't have a favorite and said he's focused on finishing out his junior season and then seeing which programs are seriously interested.
He doesn't have any unofficial visits planned at this time but Upland is loaded with Division I prospects so he wouldn't be against hitting the road to see some college campuses as the season continues.
