2014 linebacker Melvin Keihn of Baltimore (Md.) Gilman School is quickly becoming one of the more sought after players at his position in the region for next year. Up to seven offers now, Keihn is also receiving interest from many of the top programs in the country.
"Right now I have seven offers that I know of, but my coach told me that I have been offered by a lot of schools," said Keihn, who is 6-foot-2 and 220-pounds. "Right now I'm just really focusing on the upcoming season."
Keihn picked up early offers from Boston College, Rutgers, Maryland and Charlotte and recently added three more offers from Virginia, West Virginia and Wake Forest. Aside from these seven, several other schools are also showing interest.
"I talked to the Miami, Notre Dame and Virginia Tech coaches when the came up to our school," he said. "They showed strong interest. Also Michigan is interested in me as well. They will be coming after me more during my junior year. Then Indiana, Michigan State, Vanderbilt, Florida, Penn State, Pittsburgh and Oklahoma are interested in me as well."
During the summer, Keihn has not been able to attend any summer camps to this point.
"I have been working out with my teammates for our regular summer workouts with our strength and conditioning coach," he said.
All of this has helped Keihn prepare himself for his upcoming junior season.
"I'm just taking it one day at a time," he said. "I'm waiting for the first kickoff because after that first kick I will be on the road to accomplish some goals. My first goal is to definitely play hard for my teammates and to have our seniors leave for college as champs. My second goal is to be a nightmare to the quarterbacks and come up with the defensive player of the year award."
