More From The Camp

Sunday’s camp was a star-studded affair that drew over 500 participants. Like the Nike camp that was staged on April 13th earlier in the month RB/WR Whitney Lewis (6-1, 215) from Ventura (Calif.) St. Bonaventure had everyone ooing and aweing. Lewis was clocked in the 40-yard dash in 4.35 seconds and ran the shuttle in 3.9. Both were camp bests.
Notes on other players in attendance:

Athlete prospect Nick Pierson (5-10, 170. 4.5) a teammate of Whitney Lewis at St. Bonnies also had a great shuttle time of 4.0 seconds. He drilled very well. One thing to keep in mind his Nick is the younger brother of SC fullback Chad Pierson.
WR Devin Stearns (6-2, 185) from Gardena (Calif.) Serra was impressive in drills and caught the ball extremely well.
WR Bobby Whithorne (6-1, 185) from Santa Margarita (Calif.) Catholic was among the best route runners at the camp. He was constantly open on the seven-on-seven drill but for the most part the QBs didn’t look his way. Bobby did make the most of his opportunities and made a couple of nice grabs. Definitely a good one.
WR Jason Ferguson (5-7, 170) from Los Angeles (Calif.) Fairfax caught everything in sight and made play-after-play. If Jason were a little taller, he would be a big time recruit.
WR Clarence Simpson (6-3, 195) from Sylmar, Cailf., was very athletic and showed solid skills. Simpson played QB last year for Sylmar, but will return to his more natural position as a wide receiver for his senior season.
WR Jeff Gray (5-11, 170) from North Torrance, Calif. showed a nice pair of hands and also ran solid routes.
WR B.J. Vickers (6-3, 207) from Venice, Calif., impressed Pac10Recruiting once again. We first saw him at a passing league contest a week ago and we felt he may be among the best in the west this season. He’s very smooth and possesses soft hands.
WR Super sleeper Antwuan Giddens (6-4, 190) also from Venice looked good catching the deep ball. He dropped a couple of short passes, but the potential Giddens to be very good is definitely there.
RB Rafael Rice (5-11, 195) from Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei sure passes the look test. We didn’t see him drill but we saw him up close and this young man is very solidly built.
RB/LB Ashton White (6-2, 225) from Santa Margarita (Calif.) Catholic is another one like Rice who passes the look test.
We will continue our reports on the USC camp and give names that we saw at the camp. Some of the players we will write about are Leon Jackson III, Rocky Hinds, Richard Irvins and more.
Stay tuned…
