Moorman waits on new Wisconsin coach

Northville, Mich., three-star offensive tackle and Wisconsin commit David Moorman has had a few days to let the news of Gary Andersen's departure sink in.
"At first it was a complete shock to me that Coach A. left," Moorman said. "I was supposed to have my in-home visit with Coach (Jeff) Genyk the next day and had talked to him (before the news broke) and it didn't come up at all, he had no idea. I saw it over Twitter and was immediately shocked."

In the days after the announcement of Andersen's departure, Moorman was faced with other considerations as he planned his next steps.
"Immediately after it happened my phone blew up and I started getting calls from other schools," Moorman said. "As of right now I am 100 percent committed to Wisconsin. I love the University and love the people. But, I am still listening to a couple schools."
One of the schools Moorman is listening to is Purdue, which offered him a scholarship the day after Andersen took the Oregon State job.
"It was cool to get the offer from Purdue," Moorman said. "It's always fun to get an offer to play high level football and Purdue would offer me a chance to do that. They want me to come up for an official, so I still have to figure out if I want to do that or not."
Besides Purdue, Moorman said Illinois, N.C. State and Penn State are the three schools that have showed the most interest in the last week.
"I told them I just want to see what happens, so they said 'we'll give you some space and if you're still interested (after the dead period), then the first day they'll be at your house,'" Moorman said. "I still haven't decided if I want to take visits. I might still take all my officials, but I still have to figure out what is going to go on with Wisconsin before that decision."
Moorman has seen the reports of current Pittsburgh head coach Paul Chryst being a likely successor to Andersen at Wisconsin.
"Pittsburgh came to my school to recruit me my junior year, but it was a casual drop-in," Moorman said. "I know that (Chryst) was the offensive coordinator under Coach (Bret) Bielema. He took the Pitt job after his year with Russell Wilson and had a pretty solid career at Pitt."
Moorman also said he has built a strong relationship with current Wisconsin offensive line coach T.J. Woods and is watching closely to see if he is retained or how he would relate to a new position coach.
The 6-foot-5, 291-pound Moorman is ranked as the No. 51 offensive tackle prospect in the class of 2015. He had discussed the possibility of graduating early with the Wisconsin coaching staff during his official visit to Madison last month, but that idea appears to be tabled in the wake of Anderesen's departure.
