Montgomery still looking around

The on again, off again rumors that Rancho Cordova (Calif.) running back James Montgomery is wavering on his commitment to Washington appear to be on again. We talked with Cordova head coach Max Miller earlier today who filled us in on where the talented back will be taking his official visits to.
Montgomery, 5-9, 190 pounds committed to the Huskies back in the summer but rumors have swirled since early in the season that the running back was still looking at other schools and would take a trip or two.

Two weeks ago, we talked with a local beat writer in the Sacramento area who told us that he had spoken with Montgomery after a Cordova game and said the athlete told him Washington was dropping and he would likely decide between UCLA and Cal.
"I'm not sure if he has totally dropped Washington but I think they might be a long shot for James right now," Miller said. "I think James wants to stay closer to home now. He went up to Washington in the summer and was kind of blown away by what he saw there. You know how it is with kids, sometimes they'll check out a place and make a decision and it's just too early to do that in my opinion.
"Call me old school but in my opinion, it should be illegal to offer these kids before their senior season. I mean everyone does it but I don't see how anyone can make a college choice so early in the process before they take any trips or see what else is out there. I'll never tell one of my players what to do, and I've never told James what he should do but in my opinion, I don't ever think a player should decide on a college until after his senior football season."
Regarding what schools Montgomery is looking at.
"He's going to visit Oregon next weekend (Nov 18) for the civil war game," Miller said. "He's also going to visit UCLA and Cal but I don't know if he has dates set up yet. Fresno State is also high on his list because they're close to home and have a really good program. I think his decision will come from one of those four schools but I couldn't tell you if he has a leader among that group because I just don't know."
