Montgomery (Ala.) Carver athlete Darnodo Smith has been checking out various programs in the Southeast during the spring.
The 5-foot-11, 190-pounder recently attended Alabama's Junior Day.

"I really liked Alabama and found out a lot of good things," he said.
Smith added that the Crimson Tide have emerged as somewhat of an early favorite.
"I like the program and really want to play there," he said. "I am keeping my options open, though."
Smith has received letters from a host of schools, including Auburn, Arkansas, Louisville, Temple, Duke, Georgia Tech, Tennessee, Southern Mississippi, Memphis, Florida State, Florida and Miami (Fla.), in addition to the Crimson Tide.
The letters from the Hurricanes have been especially nice for Smith. He grew up a Miami fan.
"I liked their style of play," he said.
In addition to the Tide and Canes, Smith also likes Auburn, Florida State and Georgia.
Despite projecting as a defensive back at the next level and making the majority of his plays on that side of the ball his junior season, Smith models his game after San Diego Chargers running back Ladainian Tomlinson.
"I really like his running style," Smith said. "He can always do things and create a bunch of plays from the running back position.
When he did tote the ball (he had only seven carries), Smith averaged 5.0 yards per carry his junior season. On defense, he had 85 tackles.
Smith played in the Alabama North-South All-Star game and plans to camp at Alabama, Auburn and Georgia this summer.
He also will attend the Athens NIKE Camp April 29 on the campus of the University of Georgia.
