Moffett next in elite line at Palm Bay

Offenses across the Sunshine State have been terrorized for two seasons already by Palm Bay defensive end Geneath “Neefy” Moffett, and there’s still no relief in sight for them.
Moffett (6-3, 235, 4.55) has racked up 43 sacks in the last two years, including 23 as a sophomore in leading Palm Bay to a 13-2 record and the Class 4A state championship.

He’s positioned himself not only as one of Florida’s top players, but also one of the nation’s elite prospects for the Class of 2005.
“Neefy is a kid you don’t need to watch very long to know he’s a big-time player,” Palm Bay coach Dan Burke said. “All you gotta do is look at him. He’s just a big, strong, fast athlete who can really run – exactly what you’d expect a great defensive end to look like.
“He just dominates. That’s the best way to put it. He’s unblockable as a rush end. He’s as good as anybody we’ve ever had.”
That’s lofty praise coming from a program which has produced players like Joe Cohen, Reggie Nelson and Xavier Carter in recent years.
Burke says his staff is exploring the idea of playing Moffett as a linebacker next season in an effort to keep teams from “running away from him. We’re going to put him in a position to make even more plays.”
Although no official offers have come in yet, Burke says it’s just a matter of time before Moffett is coveted by all the nation’s top programs.
“He’s getting letters from coast to coast already,” Burke said. “Of course the big three down here in Florida, the SEC and ACC, and even some from as far away as USC. We’ve just now started to send out some film on him, so I’m sure by May things are going to get pretty heavy with him.”
