Mixon trims extensive list

Joe Mixon had to do it.
Too many programs were getting involved in his recruitment and things were getting a little too busy so the four-star running back has made the first cut to his extensive offer list.

The Oakley (Calif.) Freedom standout who earned offensive MVP honors at the Rivals Camp Series by Under Armour last weekend in Los Angeles went to Twitter on Friday to tell the fans of each school they made it to Round 2.
Mixon, a 6-foot-2, 210-pound prospect who has nearly 40 offers, said Notre Dame, USC, Arizona State, Clemson, Michigan, Arkansas, Wisconsin, Cal, Oklahoma, UCLA, Ohio State, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Georgia, Washington and Oregon State will continue to be seriously considered as his recruitment continues.
Rated as the No. 82 prospect in the 2014 class by Rivals.com, Mixon has a great chance to move up even further after his performance at the Rivals Camp in Los Angeles where he dominated especially in one-on-one drills.
Mixon inevitably left some major programs off his list after this first round of cuts but he said trimming it down was necessary for him to focus on the teams that really stuck out to him.
Although no team has been absolutely eliminated, notables like Arizona, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Louisville, Miami, Michigan State, Ole Miss, Missouri, NC State, Texas Tech, Utah, Vanderbilt and Washington State were left off.
Mixon, who rushed for 1,443 yards and 20 scores on 201 attempts and who also caught six touchdown passes in his junior season, was outstanding at the Rivals Camp last weekend.
He was unstoppable in one-on-ones against linebackers and even when he went outside and was defended by cornerbacks and safeties, Mixon still had his way.
He was named the offensive MVP of the camp and was also invited to the Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge this summer.
